My Partner's Business

Large & in Charge: mission statement

This is a business that will help anyone looking to one day become the boss of a business, or their own business. We go at a pace that is comfortable for everyone so nobody feels rushed and uncomfortable. Other businesses primarily help those fresh out of college, but we help those who may not have gone to college, or those who felt that college was too much for them and dropped out. Many people out there hope to one day be the owner of their own business and that is why we are here. We teach them all there is about business and what it takes to be the big boss of a company. We believe anyone can become the owner of a large corporation with the right mind set and the right teaching.

Homework #6

League of Legends

Ten groups of 5 people each take place in a tournament to try and destroy the opposing team's nexus. There are five different places you can choose to go: Top Lane, Middle Lane, Bottom Lane, Support (which goes with the bottom laner), and the Jungler. Every character has special abilities that make them unique in their own way and everyone will continuously respawn, but the longer the match goes on the longer it will take you to respawn.  Everyone will have to fight groups of minions that spawn every so often to help their team out, they will worry about towers that fire lasers at you if you are the first to come within range of it, or if you fight the enemy under their tower, and you have to worry about various creatures in the jungle.

Movie Poster I love or hate

I love this poster because even if you did watch the trailers you are left wondering who is this little girl and how much of an impact will she have on Logan, or how much Logan will affect her.

Homework #5

Dustin Stanton got his first muse for design at a movie agency when he saw newly designed movie posters for a film.  He stated how he went on his own in 2009, but eventually started working with Paul Thomas Anderson at BLT.  Dustin praised Paul for never throwing out any good ideas and managing to use them somehow.  For the movie Magnolia, Dustin had an idea that Paul liked about a frog coming down and creating a tear and revealing a blue sky and there was a basket weaving idea where all of their lives were being weaved together and they ended up using both of those ideas for DVD packaging.

Homework #4

In this article Mary Winkler was able to interview Dave Perillo, who is also known as Montygog.  Perillo explains how artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Walt Disney inspired most of his designs as an illustrator.  Perillo also explains how the book Ed Emberly's Drawing Book of Animals showed him how you can make designs from basic shapes.  Shows like Scooby-Doo, Looney Toons, GI Joe, and Super Friends were his inspiration to start being an Illustrator.

Nike's Chief of Design

John Hoke describes how he has dyslexia and that doodling and drawing was his first language because of.  I love that because he talks about art and design as though it actually is its own language.  Not a great many people think of art like that.  They look at a painting and think, "Wow that's really beautiful."  They don't see it as how the artist sees it.  Every stroke of the brush, or every sketch with a pencil, is its own form of language to them.

Homework #2

Niels Diffrient talks about how he used to be in love with airplanes and wanted to be a plane engineer.  Unfortunately for him though, by the time he came of age for when he could decide he wanted that to be his major during college, the love for airplanes died out.  So then he decided he would become a designer, specifically a chair designer.  He spent seven years of his life designing his chair.  Niels based his design of the chair off of the human.  He based a design off of a design and incorporated another design into his chair.  The design he incorporated was the cushions from a bicycle for extra support.  He got creative enough to not just redesign the chair, but add different designs to make it unique and creative.

Homework #1

Alice Rawsthorn notes changes in two well known companies, UPS and Citroën.  She notes how the UPS symbol used to be a present and how it was an enjoyable logo to look at but now it is a plain and boring.   She says how whenever she saw the Citroën logo it would remind her how rooted they were in design and innovation, but now with the redesign they are no where near as special as they once were.  Alice also talks about a poorly designed sign she saw in London one day.  That the D in "Diverted" distracts people from what the sign is saying because of how big it is compared to the other letters.
