Nike's Chief of Design

John Hoke describes how he has dyslexia and that doodling and drawing was his first language because of.  I love that because he talks about art and design as though it actually is its own language.  Not a great many people think of art like that.  They look at a painting and think, "Wow that's really beautiful."  They don't see it as how the artist sees it.  Every stroke of the brush, or every sketch with a pencil, is its own form of language to them.

Homework #2

Niels Diffrient talks about how he used to be in love with airplanes and wanted to be a plane engineer.  Unfortunately for him though, by the time he came of age for when he could decide he wanted that to be his major during college, the love for airplanes died out.  So then he decided he would become a designer, specifically a chair designer.  He spent seven years of his life designing his chair.  Niels based his design of the chair off of the human.  He based a design off of a design and incorporated another design into his chair.  The design he incorporated was the cushions from a bicycle for extra support.  He got creative enough to not just redesign the chair, but add different designs to make it unique and creative.
